New Year’s Resolutions

1. a firm decision to do or not to do something.

Hey guys!

Where on earth has the rest of 2016 gone?! I know I ask this every year, but I’m pretty sure we’ve skipped a few months somewhere! But, a new year means new resolutions – a long list of pointless aims which we all know will be thrown out the window by the start of February! This year, I’ve decided to be a bit more practical with my choices and maybe I’ll actually succeed in accomplishing them for once! I’ve decided to make a post today, sharing my resolutions for the year with you. I would love to know what resolutions you have for 2017!

My 2017 New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. Go colouring more often – colouring is something I actually really enjoy and find extremely relaxing! I hope that if I spend more time colouring, I might in turn spend less time on the internet – Instagram’s ‘Explore’ feature is a black hole I struggle to escape from… I also now have three barely touched colouring books, which have been piling up in a corner of my bedroom and I’m eager to start and finish them!
  2. Stop buying makeup I don’t need! Though I’m not putting myself under a full ‘makeup ban’, I do need to cut back on buying products of which I already own similar ones. For example, I keep buying new eyeshadow palettes when I genuinely need a new primer!
  3. ‘Deface’ at least one book – which is really just scribbling notes, marking favourite quotes, doodling inside, and the like! I originally saw this in this YouTube video by Pink Lemonade Reads, which lead me to watching an endless list of amazingly creative and artsy people turning their books into stunning pieces of art! I’m in awe!
  4. Reach my GoodReads reading challenge of 45 books again!
  5. The CLASSIC ‘get healthy’, though I think I’ll start small and get back into walking to start off with! (Had been going running almost three times a week from July until October, but that routine was thrown out a window at some point after that apparently!)
  6. Get into writing for fun, rather than the occasional school essay! I think a dream of mine would be to be an author one day!
  7. Blog more! Mainly putting more effort into the posts I do, and also writing posts that interest me!

I think that’s all for my 2017 Resolutions! I certainly tried to keep it small and achievable, though I suppose we’ll find out how that goes – I’ll definitely keep you guys updated! I’d love to hear what some of your resolutions are, or if you have any! See you soon.

Lots of love,

Aisling xx

It’s been a while…

Soooo…I’m currently writing this all at once, half delirious from exhaustion, before I end up giving myself the option of chickening out…

It’s definitely been a while since I last logged into WordPress and I’m very aware of the fact that I have not made a blog post since July – not a fact I’m particularly proud of… I doubt anyone has actually noticed, but it has certainly been eating at me recently! But, whether you were beginning to wonder if I’d fallen off the edge of the earth OR this is your first time seeing my blog, this post basically sums up everything about my disappearance, the future of my blog & how it all got started!

I started this blog back in August 2015, as a way to share my thoughts, opinions & really just my journey as I progressed with makeup! I instantly fell in love with blogging, the artsy photography side, being able to share my thoughts and chatting with people with the same interests as me, and also being able to do what I enjoy – experimenting with makeup & fashion. I posted a new blog post every Sunday, all of which are still on this site, if you want to take a look but I’m warning you now, it’s pretty cringy! My blog was genuinely something I loved doing. It was my very own ‘Hannah Montana’ lifestyle, my best friend being the only person who knew I had a blog, as she had started one at the same time as me. I spent hours planning what posts I wanted to write, when I’d post them and products to include – I was loving every minute of it! Maybe it was the novelty of having a blog that actual people read every week that excited me and kept me going. Looking back, I think that was a tiny part of it, but I did truly grow a passion for blogging about makeup, no matter how amateur.

It was December 2015 when my friend decided to delete her blog since she wasn’t enjoying it anymore. Though this isn’t what lead to my blog coming to a halt, it certainly made me realise how out of my depth I was, trying to produce a blog post a week during an exam year! I was also gradually running low on ideas and inspiration, and after a few months like this, I was getting into the bad habit of throwing together a fast post on a Saturday evening, just to be able to say that I had post done for Sunday.

At this point I was no longer enjoying the idea of blogging, and it became more of a task than a pass time. Long story short, one week in July I had nothing to post, so I didn’t bother. One week became two, then three, then next thing you know, it’s been several months of pure nothing!

I could pretend I feel awful about taking a break, but in reality, I think I needed it! It’s gotten to the point where now, I’ve started to miss blogging and being able to share parts of my life! Which is why I’m back. I don’t think I will be setting an exact day for posts anymore, and just letting them come when they come – which could very well mean one post one week, nothing the next and then three the following week!

To update you on my past few months though here are a few things that have happened to me!

  1. I turned sixteen and had a college open day on the other side of the country on my actual birthday! Had to drive four and a half hours each way to attend, but it was worth it in the end!
  2. I got tickets to a Shawn Mendes concert in May and I am over the moon about it! You can expect at least one makeup and outfit post on that in future!!!
  3. I went and stayed with family in England – such a gorgeous country! Though I did end up coming home with almost twice the makeup I left with!
  4. I have kind of come to love scrapbooking! In Fourth Year (or Transition Year) in my school, we are required to keep a scrapbook or ‘TY Journal’ of our year for English class – this is, however, costing me a fortune in glitter and glue sticks!
  5. I am making a promise to myself to get back into blogging – a resolution I really hope to stick to!

I hope that you’ll stick around, for a new chapter of this beauty blog! If you have actually read this far – I genuinely want to hug you right now! Sorry about my rant, a simple ‘I’m back to blogging’ probably would have done it!!! I hope you’ve all had an amazing year and a fabulous Christmas! See you soon.

Lots of love,

Aisling xx

What’s In My Makeup Bag: Camping

Hey guys!

This week, my family and I have been staying at a campsite in our caravan for a holiday! Though I generally don’t bother with makeup while camping in the tent, while staying in the caravan, I tend to bring a few basic bits and pieces of makeup – as at least I have a proper mirror to apply it with there!!! So, I am writing this post, to show you exactly what is inside my makeup bag at the moment! I hope you enjoy!

First of all, my ‘Love Paris’ makeup bag is from Penneys/Primark. I find that this is a very handy makeup bag to have, as I can fit all my makeup, face washes & moisturisers, and hair supplies, such as bobbles, hair pins, hair bands and bandanas, in one place!

Garnier Pure Active 2 in 1 Makeup Remover Purifying Gel: This removes makeup, even waterproof, and cleanses skin with ease, targeting impurities and reducing the appearance of blemishes. I find it very useful to be able to have one thing that will both clean my skin and remove makeup in one go! It’s ideal when needing to be as quick and efficient as possible.

Ps Love Oil Balancing Cleansing Wipes: I love having wipes on hand, for the days when I’m too tired or don’t have time to wash my face. Having wipes are especially helpful while camping as there isn’t always access to unlimited water!!! These are certainly cheap and cheerful, doing their job at a low cost!

Nivea Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream: Similar to the makeup remover, the more functions a product has, the better when trying to pack lightly! This is a lovely refreshing moisturiser, which can be used for body, face or hands! It’s also not too bulky to pack at the bottom of my makeup bag.

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer: I usually stick to minimal or no makeup when camping, so concealer is my go to for coverage! This concealer is great quality, giving good coverage without being dry or uncomfortable. I apply this with a damp blending sponge, which I purchased from Penneys. I honestly don’t understand how I used to apply concealer with a brush, before I started using this sponge!!!!

Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder: To set my concealer, I use this powder, which prevents creasing of concealer under my eyes. I also dust this lightly along my forehead, nose and chin area to prevent oiliness and to leave my face with a matte finish.

Benefit They’re Real Mascara: Mascara is always a necessity for me! I love how easily it can transform a makeup look and how it widens my eyes for a more awake look!!! This is definitely my favourite mascara, as it adds great length and volume quite naturally and is long wearing enough to last through the day.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Melon Mania: As a bit of a lip balm addict, I never stray far without a Baby Lips tinted lip balm! This particular one adds a sheer slight tint of pink with a nice moisturising shine.

Jack Wills Berry Lip Balm: This lip balm came in a set of three, this being the most used for me! This is a handy size to carry in a handbag or pocket and so, is ideal for traveling. Plus, of course only one lip balm was not enough to bring!!!!!!!

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Chic: This is definitely my favourite lipgloss, though sadly it is no longer sold by Tanya Burr Cosmetics. It is a beautiful nude shade, which I adore for any natural makeup look!

That’s all for this post, but I hope you have enjoyed! I’ll be back next week to share my July Favourites. See you Sunday!

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

Hey guys!

I will admit to the fact that I am awful at remembering and/or taking the time, to clean my brushes! It just takes so long and feels never ending! I have decided, however, to make a post sharing how I clean my brushes with household products, as I generally don’t like to spend much on cleaning brushes(if I have money, you can bet it will be spent on yet another lipstick or eyeshadow palette!)! I hope you enjoy!

To make a brush cleaner, I actually use dish soap and vegetable oil! After discovering this on Pinterest, I found that this actually works really well, leaving brushes spotless and as soft as ever! In a small container, I pour equal parts dish soap and vegetable oil and stir it together with either a fork, wooden skewer or even one of my smaller dirty brushes!

DIY Brush Cleaner
To clean the brushes, I first wet the brush under the tap and then swirl it around in the mixture until it forms a foamy-sudsy consistency. I then swirl it around on my palm to clean off all the makeup properly.
Dirty brushes, before cleaning

To rinse off the brush cleaner, I let the water run down from the tips of my fingers to the palm of my hand, so that I can rinse it in the water, without the direct force from the tap!
To dry them off, I rub them against a towel gently to remove some of the excess water. Then, I just leave them all lying out flat on a hand towel overnight to dry off.

Finished clean brushes, while drying
I do spot clean my brushes regularly with the Penneys/Primark Ps Love Makeup Brush Cleaner, which you simply spray onto the brushes and swirl around on a tissue. I find this very useful to clean brushes last minute or if I need to use an eyeshadow brush with a different colour. It honestly works amazingly, considering the extremely low cost, leaving most brushes spotless!
I hope you enjoy this post! It’s a bit short, but I’ll be back next week with another blog post! See you soon!

Little Mix ‘Get Weird’ Tour: Makeup Look

Hey guys!

The 3rd of July has easily been the best night of my summer, if not year(!), so far! I went to see the Little Mix concert at the Marquee in Cork and it was honestly amazing! I would even go as far as saying it’s the best concert I’ve been to yet, hardly an exaggeration when it was also only my second ever concert!!!! But, it was an extremely enjoyable night singing and dancing along. The girls were gorgeous(as always) and are still so down to earth and happy to have fun with it!

Because of this, I have decided to recreate the makeup look I wore to the concert for a blog post – mainly because I was too forgetful to take a picture of it on the day! Great move, Aisling… Anyways, I hope you enjoy this post!!!

For the base, I used my Catrice Prime and Fine Pore Refining Anti-Shine Base in order to make my makeup apply easier and in the hope of it lasting longer! I used my Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain all over my face and concealed my under eyes and any remaining blemishes with my Seventeen Stay Time Concealer in Extra Fair. I bronzed my face to give it the summery complexion my fair skin fails to gain(!) with this Rimmel Sun Shimmer Bronzing Compact Powder which has a beautiful light golden shimmer to it! I always find peach a summery colour, so I felt my Essence Matt Touch Blush in Peach Me Up! would be ideal. I used my stunning Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick in Pink Bronze which is honestly one of the only highlighters I use – such a pretty colour! I set it all with my Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder to give a long lasting matte effect, which would last throughout the concert.

For the eye look, I used my W7 In The Buff Palette and a BarryM Single Eyeshadow in a pretty bronze-taupe shade, which doesn’t seem to have a name! I first used a light matte brown colour in my crease to define it. I packed the BarryM eyeshadow(which doesn’t seem to come out as shimmery on camera!) all over my lid and blended a dark brown into the outer corner of my eye and my crease, as well as underlining my lower lash line with this shade on a small angled brush. I smoked out the edges with a bit of matte black, blending it all in wth a clean fluffy brush. I also lined my top lashes with this black shade. I finished the eyes with a light coat of my favourite mascara, the Benefit They’re Real Mascara. I also filled in my brows and set them with the Collection Eye Brow Kit in Brunette.

I didn’t want to have to be constantly checking on lipstick throughout the concert, so instead I used a coat of my Tanya Burr Lipgloss in Chic, a beautiful shade which she sadly no longer sells but which I will most certainly be stocking up on from Amazon!

Here is the finished look, though, for some reason, my camera never picks up the shimmer or exact colour in eyeshadows!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Thanks for reading! I’d love to hear about it if you have been to the Get Weird tour! See you next week!

My Summer Bucket List 2016

Hey guys!

Since it’s now the summer holidays, I have decided to put together a list of things that I want to complete during the summer, or a summer ‘bucket list’. I feel like if I don’t set some sort of goal for myself, then the next few months could end up being spent doing nothing! I’ve been making this list for a while now on my notes and decided to make a blog post out of some of them! Hope you enjoy!

  1. Go camping again
  2. Have a Harry Potter movie marathon
  3. Attempt to bake a cake – ‘How To Cake It’ style!
  4. Have a water fight, on one of the rare sunny days we have in Ireland!
  5. Finish at least 8 books
  6. Get back into painting my nails, it’s been too long since I last opened my polishes!
  7. Have a beach day
  8. Get a slushie- nothing says summer like a cup of melting ice!
  9. Spend a day watching only Disney movies
  10. Teach myself to do some of the Disneyland/Disney World character signatures. Not sure why I would ever need this in life, but I think, as a Disney fanatic, it could be fun to learn!
  11. Try to write a book, I’m curious after reading so many!
  12. Go for a picnic
  13. Finally get around to trying some Pinterest DIYs
  14. Work more on blog posts!!!! I am very aware that I have been slacking recently!!!!!
  15. Re-create an outfit from Pinterest or Tumblr
  16. Master winged eyeliner
  17. Make a scrapbook
  18. Film a look-book on my phone, just for the fun of it!
  19. Family game of Cluedo or Monopoly…things get competitive!!!
  20. Go to a concert
  21. Shop…a lot!
  22. Finish a TV series
  23. Visit 5 new coffee shops
  24. Get a new pet
  25. Try a new recipe

Hope you enjoy this post! Sorry that it’s short, but I am going to the Little Mix ‘Get Weird’ tour tonight, so there will be a blog post based around that next week! Thanks for reading!

June Favourites 2016

Hey guys!

I know that I have been completely missing in action for the past few weeks, I had exams and so I was stuck studying for them! But, I’m back, now that I have summer holidays, and I hope to be able to put more work into these blog posts throughout the summer!

Anyway! I’m glad to be back and showing you all the things that I have been loving and using during the month of June!

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water: This product has always been a favourite for me for removing makeup! It’s easy to use and removes makeup with ease, while cleansing the skin too! It also cleans off my Benefit They’re Real Mascara very well, which is always a bonus to me!!!

Jack Wills Berry Lip Balm: I am personally a bit of a lip balm addict and can’t go long without some form of it nearby! I have recently taken to using this one, which came in a set of three, berry, vanilla and rose scented. I really like this one, though I’m not too fond of the other two, which smell a bit more like candles than lip balms!!!

Essence Prettifying Lip Oil in 02 First Help, Pinky: First of all, I have no idea what is up with this shade name. Am I missing some obvious pun or is it just random?! I have been curious about lip oils since seeing Zoe Sugg talk about the Lancôme one, and seeing a €2.50 version in Penneys was really a no-brained to me! This is available in a plain yellow/honey and a red also, which I am definitely planning on trying out! These aren’t really tinted on the lips, but give a gorgeous glossy look! They also last miles longer than an average lip balm, and feel much more moisturising. It doesn’t feel sticky or oily on the lips and has a texture quite similar to a smooth, thick lip gloss!

Nivea Soft Moisturising Cream: There really isn’t much to say about a moisturiser other than it had a very thick, smooth consistency, yet soaks in very quickly and easily! This can apparently be used on hands, face and body also. This cream leaves skin soft, smooth and refreshed!

Beautiful Broken Things ~ Sara Barnard: This was an amazing book, about the drama and heartbreak of friendships, especially among girls. I loved how this was one of the rare books which focus on friendship rather than romantic relationships. This is a contemporary novel which follows best friends Caddy and Rosie and the things that occur when the ‘troublesome’ Suzanne joins the mix, bringing her complicated past with her. Here is the GoodReads page for the book!

Dangerous Woman ~ Ariana Grande: I have finally gotten around to buying a hard copy of this album! I honestly love Ariana so much and her new songs are simply amazing!!!

Girls Like ~ Tinie Tempah ft. Zara Larsson

Send My Love ~ Adele

That’s all for this post! I hope to see you again next Sunday! Thanks for reading!

May Favourites 2016

Hey guys!

May is over already?! I could have sworn that Christmas Eve was just a few weeks ago!?! But I guess it’s about time to write a May favourites post then! Hope you enjoy!!!

Zoella Let’s Spritz Body Fragrance: This is the fragrance from Zoella’s, or Zoe Sugg’s, summer tutti fruity collection last year. I adore this fragrance, finding it perfect for summer, which is why it has slowly but surely made its way back to my dressing table for regular use! As a side note, I am so excited about her new Sweet Inspirations line, and I’m definitely planning on buying from it! The packaging for the new collection is easily my favourite one yet!

Tanya Burr Lipgloss in I Found Nemo: This coral pink lipgloss is also ideal for the bright summery months to come! It has a very moisturing consistency and isn’t sticky-which can be a serious pet peeve of mine when it comes to lipgloss!!! The name is also adorable, to top it all off!

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer: This has recently become one of my favourite concealers! I find it so much creamier than the Collection Lasting Perfection one, which was a previous love of mine. I have  had a much easier time applying this, and it seems to blend in so much easier for me!

Garnier Hand Repair Hand Cream: This is cream is so nice to use, feeling really nourishing and moisturing. It dries in very quickly and doesn’t leave you sticking to everything, which is the main reason I rarely use hand creams!

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: This is the adorable, yet realistic love story of two teenagers, both a little bit eccentric in their own ways. Between mixtapes and makeovers, this contemporary read had me feeling ALL the emotions! I highly recommend it to anyone interested in this type of story!!!

Dangerous Woman Album by Ariana Grande: I have been so excited for this album’s release, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! I’m especially loving the songs ‘Into You’, ‘Side to Side’ and ‘Greedy’!

KathleenLights YouTube Channel: I have been subscribed to Kathleen for a while now, but recently I have started to watch her videos more often and rewatch old ones! She makes amazing beauty videos, which you should really check out if you haven’t already!

How To Cake It YouTube Channel: Yolanda, of How To Cake It, makes AMAZING novelty cakes/cake art on her channel! She has made cakes looking like a snake, a beach bag and everything in between! It’s certainly a goal of mine to attempt to make one of her cakes this summer!

That’s all for this week! I hope you enjoy this post! I’d love to know what you have been loving this month! See you next week!

Current Favourite Instagram Accounts

Hey guys!

Personally, I’m horrible at keeping my Instagram up to date and sticking to themes! (Which I am getting even worse at, considering my slight hatred towards the new update!!!) But I do love looking at other accounts, and today, I’m putting together a post on my favourite Instagram accounts to look through! I hope you enjoy!!!

The first is @fromaiiwithlove, which is a makeup account. I just adore how simple yet beautiful all of these photos are and how easily the white background and pink elements blend into such a fab looking theme!!!!

@relationsheep is a book account, and I could honestly stare at these photos all day! They are so efffortlessly pretty!!!!!

@reader.of.winterfell has quickly become one of my favourite Instagram accounts! This entire screenshot is just BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

Yet another book account(sorry, I have a slight obsession with these Bookstagram accounts, if you haven’t noticed yet!!!) @throneofpages really has some amazing pictures on this page!

Here is @lipsticksnblushes, who has very simple, yet equally pretty, makeup post!

Being a complete blusher and bronzer addict, this account, @blushedandbronzed, tends to be heaven for me!!!!

Here is @ourbookworlds, such a lovely account, with a stunning theme!!!!

Lastly, is a very recent find for me, but I am so in love with this account! This is @madamereadsalot, and it’s just SO GORGEOUS!!!!

That’s all for this week! I hope you enjoyed!!! I’d love to know what your favourite Instagram accounts are! See you next week!

My Makeup Wishlist

Hey guys

I have been hoping to make this post for a while now, my current makeup wish list. I just think it might be interesting to show you what makeup I want to try out at the moment. These are a combination of products that I haven’t gotten a chance to pick up yet, haven’t been able to find in my local shops and will have to order online or that I simply can’t afford right now, since I am completely broke after my last shopping trip!!!! I hope you enjoy this post! *as a disclaimer, I don’t own any of these images, I got them all off of Google!*

The first thing on my list is the Bourjois Paris Rouge Edition Souffle de Velvet Liquid Lipsticks. These look absolutely gorgeous and I really love the colours available! I don’t own many liquid lipsticks, so these are something I would love to try out!

Next is the Tanya Burr Cosmetics Hollywood Palette. I love Tanya Burr, and I’m a little bit obsessed with the four lip glosses that I own from her brand, so I’m intrigued to try out her eyeshadows! These colours look so beautiful also, especially Enchantment.

This is the Sleek Blush Trio in Pink Lemonade. This has two powder and one cream blush, which all look like perfect spring and summer shades! I have spotted this a few times in Boots, but typically the times they have it in stock are the days I have left my wallet at home!!!

I have been needing to buy an eyeshadow base for a good while now, and the reviews I’ve heard on this sound fairly promising! This is the Catrice Prime And Fine Eyeshadow Base.

I have fallen in love with these Makeup Revolution I Heart Makeup Baked Highlighters! My favourites are probably Goddess of Love and Blushing Hearts! These are a cheap version of the Too Faced Flush Blushes, which Makeup Revolution is known for doing.

I love Ariana Grande and her Mac Viva Glam line, but it’s slightly heartbreaking that, to the best of my knowledge, they aren’t available in Ireland…may have to send American relatives out looking for them…

I really want to try out the Rimmel Contour Kit, but for some reason, I always seem to forget about it when out shopping! Love this little palette and how convenient it is however!

The NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick Collection looks stunning, with such a wide variety of nude shades!

I personally could not live without my Baby Lips, so I may or may not have screamed when I saw these Maybelline Baby Lips Candy Wow lip crayons… These look adorable and I would love to try them, if only, once again, they were released in Ireland!!!

There really isn’t much to say about this other than I need a new primer and this one looks interesting!!!!! This is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser lightweight primer.

This palette, the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette has become a new need for me!!! The colours are stunning and it supposedly smells of peaches – basically my dream eyeshadow palette!!!! However, it is extremely hard to get your hands on and is constantly sold out!

That’s all from me! I hope you have enjoyed this post! I’d love to hear if you’ve tried any of these or what on your own makeup wish list! See you next Sunday!
